Yes. During the first 12 months of the Au Pair Program the Au Pairs are free to travel internationally. However it is an Au Pair's responsibility to ensure they have the appropriate visa for the country they are visiting. Certain steps must be taken to ensure successful international travel and we require you contact your Local Area Representative and goAUPAIR headquarters prior to your trip.

Yes. This is called a "pre-match". Both Au Pair and Host Family must meet the requirements of the program, and must apply with goAUPAIR, going through the normal screening process.

The more experience you have, the better chances of placement; however, there are other qualities that are important for placement such as maturity, a sense of responsibility, an interest in cultural enrichment, and a genuine desire to take care of children.

Au Pairs are encouraged to choose a Host Family that best suits them. The family that you join is more important then your location. You should be flexible in choosing your location to find a Host Family quickly.

Can Au Pairs travel internationally?

Each Au Pair and Host Family will have a Local Area Representative (LAR) within one hours drive of their home to help mediate any problems that arise during the year. If you do have a problem, you can contact your LAR and schedule a meeting with her to try and resolve the problem. If the problem cannot be resolved, the re-matching process would begin.
